Residents help decide future of community space

News

B&D Reside and BD Giving have exciting plans to reimagine and enhance the community space in Gascoigne West. To kick things off, we invited residents to share their thoughts and preferences over a two-day community drop-in session. Fuelled by tasty smoothies provided by the wonderful Love Smoothie Bike, hundreds of residents came along to discuss what they’d like to see at the new space.

A great turnout

Arranged in partnership with B&D Giving, the event was held at the community building opposite Hardwick Street, where we were delighted by the enthusiasm and energy of attending residents. Speaking with Reside staff members, there were many positive and community-minded discussions on how the space can benefit both themselves and their neighbours.

 We were also pleased to welcome Barking and Dagenham council leader Dominic Twomey and local ward councillor Alison Cormack, both of whom showed great interest in the project and in hearing directly from the community.

What we heard

The response was fantastic, with a wide range of thoughtful and creative suggestions. A common theme was the need for a multifunctional space that could host everything from exercise classes to community events.

Ideas included:

  • Yoga, pilates, martial arts and gym classes
  • Health and fitness sessions for women
  • Activities and spaces for young people
  • A café or relaxed “coffee corner” for residents to connect
  • Support services for rough sleepers

These ideas reflect a strong desire for inclusive, practical spaces that support health, wellbeing and community connection.

What's next

We’re now reviewing all the feedback received and using it to guide the next stage of planning. If you couldn’t attend, or are only just hearing about the project, there’s still time to get involved — simply click the link below to share your thoughts.

<Have your say>

The form will remain open over the coming weeks. Thank you to everyone who’s taken part so far; your participation is helping us shape a community space that works for you and your neighbours.
