1. I park my car on the land – why are you restricting my parking?

This area is not an authorised parking area. Emergency and refuse collection vehicles and pedestrian access is being blocked by cars parked without permission on this land. The new security gates will ensure that essential services have clear access to the building in the event of an emergency and to carry out other essential services like rubbish collection.\n

2. How will emergency vehicles get access if there are locked gates?

Emergency and other services have special keys for this sort of gate.\n

3. I know someone who is disabled – where are they going to park?

Residents or visitors who hold Blue Badges can continue to access the official Blue Badge bays on surrounding roads. \n

4. When will the work be happening?

Work will start during the week of 25 May (excluding bank holiday) at the St Pauls Road end of the land. Our contractor will then move to add gates to the Tide Street end within the next week. The work will take about two days at each site.\n

5. Have you consulted with residents about this?

Residents and commercial tenants have all been given prior notice. Keeping people informed of this essential safety work has been a priority for us. It is important to understand that clear emergency access to residential buildings is a key responsibility for Reside. Authorised access to blocks for residents will not be affected by this work. \n

6. Where can I park my car in and around Mast Street?

Look out for official parking bays on the sides of the streets on the surrounding roads. \n

7. Why is parking limited in the area?

The development around Mast Street and the wider Gascoigne is designed to be a car free. This is a key part of the planning design for the development and is clearly stipulated in residents’ tenancy agreements. However, if you do have to park there is limited provision in public parking bays on the street on the surrounding roads.\n

We will be installing security gates at the entrances to the private land connecting Tide Street and St Paul’s Road, as indicated by the yellow arrow on the map below.

Why is this work happening?

Public safety, including the safety of residents, requires that emergency services and other essential vehicles have unrestricted access to this area at all times. The new security gates will not affect pedestrian access. The new gates will ensure clear access to the buildings in the event of an emergency and to carry out essential services.

Work programme

Work will start during the week of 25 May 2026 (excluding bank holiday). Once the gate posts have been installed at both ends of the land, a security gate will be installed at the St Pauls Road end. The gate at the Tide Street end will be installed during the following week. The work schedule allows time for the land to be cleared of any obstructions and any vehicles parked to be moved.

We expect the new gates will be fully operational on 5 June 2026.
