September news – temporary additional bins across the estate to aid refuse management \n\nFurther to our last update on 7 August, residents may have noticed that the council has brought in some additional bins in various locations across the estate. We have been informed that this is a temporary measure to provide support for refuse management over this weekend.\nThe council have told us the temporary additional bins are there to support their ongoing work to develop an effective rubbish collection strategy for the area.\nHow you can help\nPlease use the additional bins if you are having any issues with accessing the existing refuse collection systems like the underground collection points. \nGetting better at rubbish\nWe know how much everyone would like to see household refuse management improvements. We are looking forward to working with you all and with the council, to develop an effective and robust strategy for the estate that will benefit everyone. \n\n

Estate news for August 2024\nWe wanted to share some information about two areas of concern for residents across the Gascoigne estate area.\nEnergy centre system upgrade\nYou may have seen scaffolding and work happening in and around Beckett Court. This is to get ready for an upgrade in the capacity of the energy centre network to support future planned developments. This work is separate to any remedial work programmes happening across Weavers Quarter and is being led by Be First. We understand that the heating system upgrade programme will continue into early 2025.\nI am sorry that we didn’t let residents know about these works before they started. We don’t anticipate the works will cause any inconvenience to residents but please contact us on \nweavers@bdreside.co.uk\n if you have any concerns. We will make sure you are kept better informed about progress in future.\nUnderground bin collection – a change in service provider\nResidents across the Gascoigne estate will have noticed a build-up recently of household waste at blocks where underground bins have been installed. We understand how unacceptable and unpleasant this is for residents and visitors, particularly in the hot weather. Communication with you on this issue has been insufficient, for which I apologise. \nThe design of the underground bins need specialist, non-standard equipment to be emptied and because of this, the collection service has historically been supplied in collaboration with an outside organisation.\nWhat is the council doing to fix the issue?\nBringing in a new service provider\nThe council has told us that it is in the process of changing the specialist collection provider, which involves procuring some specialist equipment to enable the new arrangement to start. This transition is anticipated to happen over the next couple of weeks. We apologise in advance for any disruption that may occur while the change happens.\nDaily clean ups\nMeanwhile, the council have told us that their caretaking teams have been continuing to clear any build-up of rubbish from around the bins daily.\nIf you have any issues with accessing the underground containers due to fob availability, please do get in contact with us.\nMaking sure the service improves from now on\nWe will work with the council to ensure we get the assurances we need that the service will improve and that the situation will not arise again.
